Iranians Commemorate Imam Hossein's Martyrdom Anniversary, Millions of Shia Muslims around the world annually on Ashoura(Ashura), the tenth day of the lunar month of Muharram which marks the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hossein (PBUH),commemorate the great tragedy of Karbala with various forms of traditional ceremonies.


 Symbolic Caravan of Imam Hossein (PBUH)

A symbolic caravan of Imam Hossein (PBUH) moved into the city of Isfahan in Central Iran to remind people of Imam Hossein's martyrdom in Karbala over 13 centuries ago. The Battle of Karbala took place on Muharram 10, in the year 61 of the Islamic calendar in Karbala. On one side were 72 supporters and relatives of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)'s grandson Hossein Ibn Ali; on the other side was a 30 thousand-strong military detachment from the forces of Yazid I, the Umayyad caliph.
